Ok, first things first. If you're planning a trip to Curacao and have never been there before, buy this book. Reasons why:1) Detailed information about each beach, not just scored reviews, but actual descriptions of the beach2) maps showing where each beach is, but also in relation to each other3) tips on which beaches are more populous, and which to avoid.4) realistic expectations of what you'll find at each beach.I had one week to stay in Curacao, and though I did not get to explore each beach that I had hoped, I was able to enjoy the island without feeling like I had wasted any time at all. I made calculated choices on where to go thanks to this book. And when I go back, I'll know where I left off.BTW: Out of the ABCs, I'd say for beach snorkeling, Curacao is the easiest, with long beaches that are fun to sunbath in as well compared to Bonaire. However, Bonaire has more life right off the beach, it is just harder to navigate for weaker swimmers.
Studied this book prior to our Curacao vacation and it was really helpful. Everything you need to know about the island's beaches (snorkeling, diving, shade, water access, amenities, cost, how to get there, etc). Quick note: Pirate Bay now charges $12 for beach access (listed as free) - don't miss their Beach Barbecue if you see it advertised! Overall this book was the gateway to an amazing vacation. Our favorite beaches? Playa Porto Marie, Blue Bay, Kenepa Chiki and Pirate Bay. Also, I was hesitant to check out the windy Shete Boca inlets, but am glad we did - just to experience the wild side of the island.
I have read this book cover to cover in anticipation of an upcoming trip. It is very detailed, including information about the quality of the road to the beach, the sand quality (or lack thereof), amount of rocks near shore, how far out to the drop off (where the water gets very deep), of interest to snorkelers and divers, If there is good snorkeling or diving from each beach, availale parking, and details of amenities and vibe of each beach. A very valuable travel guide.
My husband and I, along with some friends, are heading to Curacao for the first time this fall. So glad that I purchased this book to familiarize myself with Curacao! The author has done us a great service in visiting every beach on Curacao and rating them in several categories. He also has photos of each beach and a description as well. This will be so helpful as some in our group want to scuba or snorkel, and some just want to lie on the beach with a good book. I would certainly recommend this book to other travelers.
Now this is an incredibly useful book as you will understand especially once you get to Curacao. All the important details of the beaches are detailed, how to get there, if there are bathrooms, food, parking, admissions, if it is sandy or you will need water shoes plus a good description of the beach and water sights.
This book was slightly accurate but difficult to navigate. Didn't translate well to Kindle so fluency of reading and page turning was lost. Beaches were impossible to search for by name - partial name brought up no results. That was very frustrating. We had a lovely vacation in Curacao but this book wasted my money I'm so sorry to say.
Very hard to read on my IPads kindle, its as if the pictures have been delivered as jpg images and the text is too small to read.
Seems to be a fantastic guide for breaking down the nuances of the beaches, although I won't know for sure until I check them out for myself. Easy to read, gives a great rundown on what to expect for what you're looking for.
